The Grouchy Old Lady

Honey!  Yes, Honey the cat is our grouchy old lady.  I figured that she’d make the perfect spokesperson because she is as sweet as sugar and happy as a clam ( I still don’t understand how they know that clams are happy!)  Anyway, Honey’s story…….Many years ago I was asked to take a cat that had so many problems that she would only come out at night to eat and drink (and take care of other stuff).  The owner said that she was afraid of everyone.  I really didin’t want another cat at the time, but I agreed.  As soon as Honey arrived, she ran under my bed and refused to come out.  Well, time went by and I got concerned about the carpet (sorry, I know I shouldln’ve been super worried about the cat!) anyway, I put a litter box (YUCK!)  and food/water dishes in my bedroom for the cat.  Eventually, she ran out from under my bed and down to our just about completely finished basemenet.  Did I say just about??? Good, because she did find one wall in the laundry part of it and climbed up into it!  Well, then I was just putting cat food and water up on top of a wall trying to convince her to come out. *In case you’re wondering…yes..I moved the litter box downstairs.  Time passed….I drove to Ace Hardware and told them that I needed a drill (they are very helpful there)  I knew nothing about drills, but they helped me, and I bought one.  I quickly went home and took the wall off and pulled a vey upsset cat out!   In the beginning, true to what the person had told me, I never saw the cat.  I knew that she was fine because of the food, water, and litter.  Once in a while, I’d see her, but a car passing outside or the neighbors talking would send her right back under a bed. Eventually, she just became more sure of her safety and is now an incredibly happy cat!  Although a loud noise or a quick movement will still make her run for cover, she is usually found sprawled out happily on a bed somewehre.   These days …Honey is a comfort to everyone who has ever met her.  If you’ve ever had a tough day and would like a furry companion, Honey is your girl!  She went from a scared cat to a comforter of the fevered, the sent to bed early (that’s a sad one there), the occasional foster child, the child that can’t find anyone to play with, and of course the “I need a break” mother. So, you see, Honey is our perfect grouchy old lady….becasue she is just the opposite….our very sweet cat!
